VOLUME 38: FEMINISMS
“Early feminism was born in strictly ordered spaces that coded and confined ideas of the feminine. Today’s discussions are wider, with similarly expanded spatial ramifications for work, care, history, and access.”

“Body, Space and Object” was exhibited at dc3 in Edmonton in June 2018. It exhibited soft sculptures by Leila Plouffe and original photography by Sean Trayner of these sculptures worn by Stephanie Dover. Creative Direction of the project and exhibition was by Carey van der Zalm.
From the Artist: All interactions in life are experienced through the body but leave marks on the mind. Feminist theorist Judith Butler reads the body as “not a being, but a variable boundary, a surface whose permeability is politically regulated.”
The collaborative project was nominated for a 2019 National Magazine Award in the category of best art direction of a single article.
